NBL Canada Alumni in The Basketball Tournament

The 72 Team field for the 2018 edition of The Basketball Tournament has been announced and features a number of faces familiar to NBL Canada fans.  Here's a complete list of NBL Canada Alumni all vying for the $2 Million Prize.

Kris Joseph - Boeheim's Army

Niagara River Lions
Joseph is one of just a handful of players to play in the NBA before their time in the National Basketball League of Canada.  A late-season addition to the now-defunct River Lions, Joseph lead the team in scoring after replacing fellow Canadian forward, Marvell Waithe at the transaction deadline.  The 6'7 Joseph joins fellow Syracuse Alumni in Boeheim's Army.

Royce White - Hilton Magic Legends
London Lightning
The 16th pick in the 2012 NBA draft, Royce White is a former NBL Canada MVP and one of the most talented and controversial players in league history.  White easily dominated the league in his two seasons with the London Lightning before a suspension in the playoffs ended his tenure with the league.  The Hilton Magic Legends is made up of former Iowa State Cyclone players like Royce.

Kareem Canty - ATL All Stars
London Lightning, Halifax Hurricanes
Canty played 16 total games in the NBLC, one with the London Lightning, and 15 with the Halifax Hurricanes before being replaced on the roster and taking his talents to Venezuela.  In his short time with the league, Canty averaged 6.5 points per game. Canty joins former NBL Canada players Charles Mann Jr. and Ari Stewart on the ATL All Stars.

Charles Mann Jr. - ATL All Stars
Cape Breton Highlanders
Mann Jr. had a breakout season for the expansion Highlanders before struggling his second season in the league.  Despite his late struggles and falling out with the team, Charles is still one of the premier players in the Highlanders short history.  Charles Mann Jr joins former NBL Canada players Ari Stewart and Kareem Canty on the ATL All Stars.

Ari Stewart - ATL All Stars
Cape Breton Highlanders
Another former Highlander and a teammate of Mann Jr's, Stewart is one of the shortest tenured NBL Canada players on our list.  Despite his 5 games for the Highlanders, Stewart averaged an impressive 13 points per game and started four times for the Highlanders.  Stewart joins former NBL Canada players Charles Mann Jr. and Kareem Canty on the ATL All Stars.

Melvin Johnson III - Ram Nation
Moncton Miracles
Melvin Johnson proved to be one of the most prolific scorers in the NBLC during his lone season with the Moncton Miracles.  The 6'6 guard led the team in scoring in his 38 games and was named Atlantic Player of the Week for the week of February 13-19.

Marcus Capers - Tampa 20/20
Mississauga Power, London Lightning
The 2x National Basketball League of Canada Champion, Marcus Capers, is one of the longest-tenured players on our list, playing four seasons for the Mississauga Power and London Lightning.  Never known for his scoring, Capers is a lockdown wing defender and a key piece in both of London's championship seasons.

Antonio Anderson - Memphis State
Saint John Mill Rats
Holding the honour for least amount of NBL Canada games on our list is former NBA and NBL Canada player, Antonio Anderson.  The 6'6 Anderson played just 5 games for the former Saint John Mill Rats.  Anderson is another former NBA player (one game) to play in the NBLC.

Coreontae DeBerry - Bearcat Jam
Halifax Hurricanes
Another one-and-done player, Coreontae DeBerry played only 14 games with the Halifax Hurricanes during the 2016-17 season and had little impact with the Atlantic Division Champions.  DeBerry joins other former Cincinnati Bearcats with the Bearcat Jam Team.

Tyquane Goard - West Virginia Wildcats
Saint John Riptide
Goard was a late-season addition to the Riptide for the 2017-18 season.  In his 21 games, including the playoffs, Goard averaged nearly10 points and 7 rebounds per game.  The Riptide may retain his services for the 2018-19 season when the league announces the list of protected players in the coming weeks.

Marcus Lewis - Illinois BC
Niagara River Lions, St. John's Edge
The ever exciting Marcus Lewis (he did win the NCAA dunk contest) spent parts of three seasons in the National Basketball League of Canada with the River Lions and St. John Edge.  Lewis was a valuable piece in the River Lions rotation his first season then became a team leader his sophomore season.  Marcus joins former NBL Canada player, Chad Posthumus on Team Illinois BC.

Chad Posthumus - Illinois BC
Mississauga Power, London Lightning, Island Storm
One of the more talented big men and Canadians to play in the NBLC, is former Lightning, Power, and Storm center, Chad Posthumus.  While he only played 44 games in three seasons, Posthumus was a force in the paint.  The 6'11 Chad joins former NBL Canada player, Marcus Lewis on team Illinois BC.

Corey Allmond - DC On Point
Saint John Millrats, Moncton Magic
While Allmond has only played parts of two NBL Canada seasons, he's still heralded as one of the leagues sweetest shooters all-time.  After the 2017-18 season with the Moncton Magic, where he was a key part of their run to the Atlantic Conference finals, Allmond lead the league in threes made with an impressive 162.  Allmond is also a former NBA G-League player and PBL Champion with the Rochester Razorsharks.  The "DC Sniper" joins his hometown DC On Point squad as they aim for the $2 Million Prize.

Eric Kibi - Albuquerque Hoops
Ottawa Skyhawks, London Lightning
Another Canadian on the list, Eric Kibi played two seasons in the National Basketball League of Canada.  First with the expansion Ottawa Skyhawks during the 2012-13 season, then was apart of the London Lightning team that lost to the Halifax Hurricanes in the 2015-16 season.  Kibi has since moved on to a number of international leagues and has even represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo in FIBA international play.

Jeremy Williams - Team Colorado
London Lightning, Island Storm, Saint John Riptide
An NBA G-League and NBL Canada veteran, Jeremy Williams has played for his fair share of teams in Canada.  First joining the London Lightning, winning a championship there during the 2012-13 season.  He then played for the Island Storm, the Saint John Mill Rats and most recently with the Moncton Magic.  He's amassed over 1000 career points and has been a factor where ever he plays.

Liam McMorrow - Eberlein Drive
Halifax Rainmen
Canadian big man Liam McMorrow holds the title of "second tallest player in NBL Canada history."  A force in the paint for the Halifax Rainmen, McMorrow was an integral part of the Rainmen's run to the finals, where they "lost" to the Windsor Express due to forfeiture.  An impressive mixture of size and skill, McMorrow has found himself as a regular on NBA Summer League rosters.

Gabe Freeman - Team 23
London Lightning, Saint John Mill Rats, Saint John Riptide
Gabe Freeman is arguably the greatest NBL Canada player of All-Time, top 3 at least.  During his storied 5 year career in the National Basketball League, Freeman has won an NBL Canada Championship, been named leagues Most Valuable Player, sits 5th all-time in points scored (2663), and leads the league in all-time rebounds with 1292.  We won't mention the countless player of the week or All-NBL Canada Team awards he has.

Carl Hall - Purple and Black
Niagara River Lions, Island Storm
Carl Hall is one of 5 former Niagara River Lions on our list.  The 6'8 post player was one of just a small number of players that physically could compete with MVP Royce White to some degree.  Playing in parts of two season in Canada, Hall was an impressive starter for both Niagara and the Island Storm.  Hall was traded to the Storm during his second season with Niagara and was vital to the Storm holding onto a playoff spot late in the 2017-18 season.

Malcolm Grant - Team Fancy
Halifax Rainmen, Mississauga Power, Island Storm
While never a standout during his three seasons in the NBLC, Malcolm Grant has been one of the more reliable point guard options.  Playing parts of three seasons with the Halifax Rainmen, Mississauga Power, and the Island Storm, Grant put up impressive numbers and proved to be on of the better passing point guards in his 53 league games.  Grant has also had a very impressive international career playing in some of the bigger leagues around the world.  Malcolm joins former NBL Canada players Kyle Hunt and Mike Poole on Team Fancy.

Kyle Hunt - Team Fancy
Halifax Rainmen
A Champion during his lone season in the NBLC, Hunt is another one-and-done player on our list.  At 6'10, Hunt as a key piece of the Halifax Hurricanes run to the NBL Canada championship where they beat the London Lightning for the team's first championship in franchise history.  Hunt has had impressive statistical seasons in several international leagues and his time in the NBLC was no different (14.3ppg and 6.1rpg).  Kyle joins two other former NBL Canada players in Malcolm Grant and Mike Poole on Team Fancy.

Mike Poole - Team Fancy
Halifax Hurricanes
Despite being one of the top bench players in his two seasons in the National Basketball League of Canada, both with the Halifax Hurricanes, Mike Poole easily could have started on any team in the league.  Poole has great size and skill on both sides of the ball and was an important part of two NBLC Finals appearances.  Poole joins two other former NBL Canada players in Malcolm Grant and Kyle Hunt on Team Fancy.

DeAndre Thomas - The Region
Halifax Rainmen, London Lightning, Windsor Express
The 6'8, 2x NBL Canada Champion, DeAndre Thomas, is probably one of the most recognizable players in league history.  Playing in parts of 6 seasons for the Halifax Rainmen, London Lightning, and Windsor Express, Thomas is a physical big man that few players could match up with during his time in the league.

Tony Bennett - Always a Brave
London Lightning, Windsor Express
Another All-Time Top 20 player in NBL Canada history, Tonny Bennett is one of the best point guards to have played in the National Basketball League of Canada.  Playing parts of four seasons with the Lightning and Express, Bennett is an NBLC Champion and currently sits 21st all-time in points scored (1643).  Bennett joins fellow Bradley University Alumni on the Always a Brave team.

Nick Okorie - Matadors
Mississauga Power, Island Storm, London Lightning, Niagara River Lions
Okorie currently ranks 2nd all-time in points scored, 4th all-time in three-pointers made and 7th all-time in assists during his time in the National Basketball League of Canada.  A top 5 player all-time, Nick has spent time with the Mississauga Power, Island Storm, London Lightning, and Niagara River Lions during his 5-year NBL Canada career.  Nick has been a dynamic scorer in every league he has played for and shows no signs of slowing down.

Sammy Zeglinski - Broad Street Brawlers
Island Storm, Niagara River Lions
The Virginia University Alumni currently sits 10th all-time in NBL Canada assists and lead the league in that category during the 2015-16 season.  Zeglinski played in parts of three seasons split between the Island Storm and the Niagara River Lions.  While not being listed as a player for the Broad Stree Ballers, he'll use his high basketball IQ on the sidelines as an assistant coach for the team.

Tyshawn Patterson - Team DRC
London Lightning, Niagara River Lions, Orangeville A's
The 5th and final former River Lion on our list, Tyshawn Patterson played for three NBL Canada teams in his two seasons with the league.  After a successful season with the Lightning as one of the top bench players in the league, Patterson played most of his second season with the River Lions before joining the A's for a total of four games.  Patterson most recently has played in the NAPB for the Kentucky Thoroughbreds.

Dominic Cheek - Tim Thomas Playaz
Orangeville A's
Our final player on the list of former Orangeville A's player, Dominic Cheek.  The 6'6 Cheek is a five-star recruit and number one ranked high school player in the State of New Jersey played 21 games for the A's and averaged an impressive 16.8 points per game and was a threat from deep whenever he stepped on the court.  Surprisingly, Cheek will not be playing for the Villanova Alumni team but will be suiting up for the Tim Thomas Playaz instead.
